Description

The Montgomery offers a programme of family friendly theatre performances, workshops, and other creative activities.

Company description
The Montgomery is an historic, yet forward thinking, multi-purpose venue based in the heart of Sheffield City Centre. We specialise in children's and family programming, serving the city region's thriving faith and arts communities. We showcase many of Sheffield's local performing arts groups, as well as a programme of professional performances especially for families. In addition, we serve and resource our over 100 faith partners (inter-denominational churches and invidiuals) across the region, by providing educational and creative materials. Our historic venue boasts a 420-seat Theatre, a flexible Studio Theatre (seats approx 70), and 3 rehearsal/exhibition/workshop spaces.

SSSU particularly championed literacy among children, as well as advocacy for child labour laws during the era of child chimney sweeps. The Montgomery has a rich history of culture especially, music, theatre, literature and the arts, and has been used by many amateur dramatic societies. 1968- SSSU was renamed to become Sheffield Christian Education Council (SCEC) as it continued to provide educational and creative resources to churches. 1971/2- Following a fire, the upper hall of the building was redesigned to incorporate a 420-seat proscenium arch theatre 2010- Montgomery Arts Centre Sheffield (MACS) launched as a ‘project’ of SCEC 2012/2013- SCEC incorporates as Mon
